Philadelphia native and devoted Williams College '91 alumn Clifton "Clif" Wright, Jr. was a lifelong friend, scholar and athlete. A talented and energetic debater on all subjects, Clif enjoyed the camaraderie and competitive nature of football and squash. The time he spent commanding the "gridiron" and the "T" allowed his true passion and personality to shine. While he was loved for his scintillating wit and regaling of stories, Clif will be remembered most fondly for his commitment to friends, his ardent support of all things Purple and Gold and his avid love of footbal aqnd squash. Even the briefest of encounters with Clif left those whom he touched with a clear understanding of his passion and zest for life. Clif passed away October 29, 2016 at the age of 48.

Established Spring 2017 through the generosity of family and friends, The Clifton G. Wright, Jr. Scholarship will continue Clif's legacy and promote character among Philadelphia’s outstanding urban youth. The scholarship benefits children from the SquashSmarts after school youth program. Wright Scholar Athletes will travel to Squash and Beyond in Williamstown, MA where they will focus and improve their physical, mental and strategic squash skills while in the company of players and coaches from around the globe. Scholar-Athletes will receive additional instruction in academic and personal development, including ACT/SAT and college course preparation. Scholar-Athletes will be selected annually for their proven commitment to SquashSmarts and will have demonstrated outstanding initiative, sportsmanship, and leadership skills among their peers.

Reflections on Clif
Those who were fortunate to be students at Williams in the Fall of '86 can never forget the indomitable spirit of Clif Wright, aka 'The Crisper'... Read The Full Reflection by friend and football teammate John Perryman ---------- "Liking Clif was easy. Quick to captivate with his engaging smile. Backed by an unusual sparkle in his eyes. An accompanying lightning quick wit..." Read The Full Reflection by friend and squash player Bob Patterson |
